After you’ve passed your driving test
Once you’ve passed your driving test, going it alone is almost as daunting as your first lesson, especially motorway driving. A lot of our students undertake the pass plus course (motorway driving) to ensure they have a complete knowledge of driving, but if you really get the ‘bug’ then there are plenty of advanced and defensive driving courses (a perfect present for achieving your driving licence!).
Essential Information We have put together the most frequently used resources needed for learning to drive in this handy section. The most requested document we get asked for from learner drivers is the list of vehicle check questions that are used by the examiners on the day of a practical driving test:. If you do nothing else today download or print this list of questions and answers and learn them, practise with friends and family on different cars so you know what to say on the day! They are commonly referred to as 'Show me Tell me ' STUDY MATERIAL We strongly recommend that you obtain the following books: Driving the Essential Skills The Highway Code Know Your Traffic Signs Official Theory Test Question book
All these books are available from the DSA website (www.dsa.gov.uk) and high street stores such as WHSmith. There are various CD Roms available for Hazard Perception training and the DSA has produced a DVD entitled ‘What if?’ which is very good. As well as the DSA website you will find some very useful and helpful information on the following sites: www.smartdriving.co.uk www.2pass.co.uk
Reading before and in between your lessons will enable you to spend more time developing your practical driving skills when on your lesson. This will make your lessons much more productive and enjoyable. A full set of lesson handouts is available from your instructor for a cost of £7. These cover all in-car lessons with lots of helpful notes and details. Diagrams are included for you to make notes and these handouts are very good revision tools. Even if or when you have passed your theory test, we still recommend that you continue your studies to keep it fresh in your mind and speed up your practical learning process.
