All our trainers are thoroughly versed in using the Roadcraft ‘IPSGA’ system of car control and are highly qualified advanced drivers and are DSA Fleet registered driver training instructors specialising in Defensive Driver Training Techniques .
Fleet (Defensive) Driver Training CoursesOur on-road training courses are based around a structured driver training process designed to improve a driver's 'hands-on' driving skills, awareness of risk and management of the driving environment. Above all they are designed to equip drivers with the necessary skills to reduce their likelihood of being involved in a crash.
Each driver is different and requires tailored training. By assessing a driver's awareness of hazards and how the vehicle is driven the specific training needs are individually agreed and a dedicated training plan prepared for each driver. Key Benefits for Candidates
- An enhanced understanding of the contributory factors inherent in common collisions
- Improved ability to perceive risks and identify driving hazards
- An enhanced ability to avoid collisions by identifying hazards more effectively and compensating for risks on the road
- Reduced driving stress and fatigue
- Increased driving enjoyment
- Reduced risk of personal injury
Fleet & Defensive Driver Training is on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis. The training session starts with a short presentation, and all candidates will be taken for a short assessment to identify their driving strengths and weaknesses (in some cases this may have already been completed on a separate risk assessment). The driver and trainer will discuss the assessment drive, and then the training will aim to improve the weak areas by dealing with the causes and building on the strengths. All candidates will be encouraged to develop more effective ways of scanning and planning for potential hazards and the trainer will introduce driving techniques for fuel efficient driving that could give a saving in fuel and save wear on major components. A debrief by the trainer will be given afterwards with an assessment and progress report.
Our Fleet driver training courses are designed to change driver attitudes and behaviours and help reduce the risk of involvement in actual or potential collisions. Directions Trainer’s provide drivers with the information and skills they need to be safer, together with an action plan to reduce their own personal risks. The trainer will give a demonstration drive and the remainder of the course is spent purely on driver development training. The day concludes with a course debrief, during which time the trainer will complete the Driver Development Reports which will be sent to the Company Fleet Manager along with Course Completion Certificates. On road in-vehicle driver training over a variety of routes is recognised as the single most effective way to reduce driver related incidents and we provide a positive learning environment which encourages clients to identify areas of strong and weak driving performance. If required additional training can be arranged to prepare candidates for an IAM or RoSPA advanced driving test. Some course content can be developed specifically for your company, covering specific risks in workshop sessions and this can ensure that cost-effective training is carried out - and your employees are 'off-job' for the minimum amount of time. Our in-vehicle training courses are best carried out in the vehicles your employees use every day, as this will be more relevant to them, although we can, if required, provide vehicles where necessary, contact us to find out more.
